We are moving! (to a new fan page)
As Facebook’s deadline for phasing-out App Profile Pages approaches, we are about to migrate RSS Graffiti’s own App Profile Page to our new Fan Page.
The URL of our page will remain the same (http://facebook.com/RSS.Graffiti). Likes will also be migrated automatically so you won’t miss any important updates we will be sending out in the future.
This makes it the last post to...
Facebook is phasing out App Profile Pages. Here is...
Facebook has recently announced that they are going to be removing App Profile Pages by February 1st, 2012. If you administer a Facebook Application, this is important news for you and probably you already know about this for several days or weeks now. If you need more info on this then you can look at Facebook’s own post here.
Now, we know that many of you use RSS Graffiti to publish your...

A round-up on today's attack
Many of our users, (especially the ones using Google Chrome) have stumbled upon a puzzling warning message today while trying to access RSS Graffiti. The message was saying that RSS Graffiti is suspicious for distributing malware and that the user should not proceed in using the site.
For the curious -and for the record- here is what happened: Yesterday (August 24th) a new exploit was found for...

As you know, we are extremely dedicated to our users and want to make sure we can give you the best service possible and answer whatever questions you may have. With this in mind we have decided to upgrade our Get Satisfaction account to allow users quick access...
Alright! We sailed and we failed...
That was an ugly one guys and it’s hard to apologize properly for it.
Here is what happened. Me and Dimitris moved to Luxembourg a couple of weeks ago. So yesterday, looking around through our database servers and debating new features, Dimitris noticed that there was an administrative account that was tied to my IP address in Sweden and said “We moved, didn’t we? I think we...

Fan Pages using new layout and Compact Style...
Over the last weeks, after Facebook rolled out the new Page layout to all Fan Pages, we received your feedback, that the “Compact Style” posts did not get published correctly. The preview showed the format as previously, but the actual published post was only containing a single message, without any additional properties or the Share action link, just like Status Updates.
We managed...

Update on Short URLs issue
The issue that has been reported earlier today, causing posts to fail if they contained attachments with shortened or redirected URLs, is indeed a Facebook bug that affects every application that uses this feature.
In response to this issue we just deployed a workaround on our servers that will allow your posts to go through until Facebook fixes the issue. Now RSS Graffiti instead of shortening...
Temporarily disabling URL shortening with Bit.ly
[UPDATE] This is a confirmed Facebook bug. We deployed a new work around. Read details here.
Many posts with attachments have been failing for the past several hours with the message:
Facebook responded with error 100: ‘attachment-href URL is not properly formatted’.
It turns out that Facebook is rejecting URLs shortened with bit.ly. This has happened also in the past, but...
Temporarily disabling UI for Event Walls
Recently some users complained of getting a blank page while trying to access RSS Graffiti. With the help of one of our users we have been finally able to reproduce the problem and track down the cause.
I’ll get more technical about it later. Let me give you the bottom line first:
To solve this we have to disable the listing of your events on the left-hand column of RSS Graffiti.
What...
About the recent downtime
After bringing everything back up and looking at our log files to see what happened, we conclude that this embarrassing downtime could have gone by unnoticed had we realized it sooner.
RSS Graffiti runs on multiple servers. The website and the front end of the application run independently from the processing engine. The problem started on one of our back-end servers while we were still up and...

Facebook down - Pausing Publishers
We were just stunned by the short look we had on the brand new design of Fan Pages and their new features! Unfortunately Facebook has become unstable during the roll-out so we can’t kick the tires just yet!
As a precaution while Facebook is facing difficulties we are pausing our publishing engine to avoid unexpected behavior or lost posts. We will resume publishing after Facebook seems...

New Facebook change breaks publishing. Here is a...
Early this morning (morning in Stockholm at least :-) ) around 06:00 GMT, Facebook pushed an update on its platform, affecting RSS Graffiti publishing feature on all Fan Pages. We ‘ve been informed by our users about it, and soon came up with the solution to the mystery, developing and pushing a hot-fix for this issue.
Apparently RSS Graffiti was not the only application affected. Any...

Unplanned maintenance
Since Facebook is down anyway and as a result, RSS Graffiti is not currently accessible, we are seizing the opportunity to take RSS Graffiiti offline too to do a couple of chores we had planned for tomorrow. We will be right back.
[UPDATE] 2010-09-23 21:17 GMT
We are done with our maintenance window and the application is now back online.

Facebook Latency issues
Facebook has announced in their Platform Status blog that they are experiencing API latency issues right now. Apart from the API we see that the whole of facebook.com is not responsive so this seems even more serious than announced.
The graph below is a snapshot taken a moment ago from Facebook Platform Live Status (which is also unresponsive from time to time). The peak in the graph is kind of...

Removing the application
As strange as it might seem, some Fan Page administrators have been complaining lately about problems removing RSS Graffiti. It is strange because removing an application is a standard Facebook procedure, it is completely independent of any application and it should be bullet proof and just work.
If you are facing such problem please read on for some insight on what is going on and how you can...

How to disable posting on a Fan Page
Some users have complained that RSS Graffiti is still able to post on their Fan Pages even after they have removed the application.
It seems that two [one] things are [is] going suddenly wrong and result in this behavior:
RSS Graffiti fails to realize that the application has been removed (our bug). [UPADTE: this is now fixed and all removal notifications from Facebook suceed.]

1.9.0 Beta - first impressions
For the past few hours we have been monitoring our new release and trying to identify and resolve any issues. The processing engine seems to run very smoothly and processes all feeds of all targets in less than a minute as expected.
Nevertheless we identified some issues relating to session keys and publishing on Application Profile walls. These do not affect everyone but there are some cases...

Delays in publishing schedules
If you are eager to read the good news, skip right to the bottom of this post.
Experiencing an amazing increase in adoption, RSS Graffiti has been seeing its number of users doubling again and again. It’s a little over a month ago that we crossed the 50.000 active user milestone and we are already past 65.000 active users and counting.
Our current server capacity was originally...
Preparing for 1.9.0 Beta
UPDATE 2010-07-20: Performance issues in version 1.9.0 Beta have been resolved. Release panned for tomorrow.
UPDATE 2010-07-19: After encountering performance problems on the production server we had to withdraw version 1.9.0 Beta for further testing and revert back to version 1.8.7 Beta.
We are preparing to release RSS Graffiti version 1.9.0 Beta later today. One of the important updates...

Disappearing Groups List FIXED
We managed to identify the problem causing the Groups of some users not to be listed in RSS Graffiti settings page as normal. The issue has been affecting an increasing number of users lately and was caused by a new permission that is being rolled-out by Facebook these days. We just deployed a hot-fix for it.
If you were experiencing this issue, to allow RSS Graffiti to list your Facebook Groups...

Bit.ly links
Many users are often puzzled by the way RSS Graffiti uses Bit.ly links. So questions keep coming in about this and that, on Bit.ly links in RSS Graffiti. It’s only reasonable because the feature is neither fully, nor properly implemented in RSS Graffiti yet.
So here is what is currently going on with bit.ly links on RSS Graffiti and what is about to change in the upcoming RSS Graffiti...

Sporadic problems with Twitter feeds
As RSS Graffiti user base grows, we recently started to run into quota problems with Twitter again. This means that some of you already see sporadic failures in publishing your Tweets to Facebook followed by a message from RSS Graffiti that says that a valid feed could not be found in your Twitter feed URL.
This is caused by the fact that RSS Graffiti (although white-listed by Twitter) has a...

The troublesome 341 Facebook errors.
In the past days we have been experiencing serious issues in posting stories to Facebook. Many attempts to post a story to Facebook result in the following Facebook error (and fail):
Error Number: 341
Error Identifier: API_EC_EDIT_FEED_TOO_MANY_USER_ACTION_CALLS
Error Description: Feed action request limit reached
This roughly seems to mean that we done too many “user action...

CSS Caching Issues - IE ONLY
UPDATE | Feb 9, 2010:
This issue has been resolved in RSS Graffiti version 1.8.6 Beta.
We just noticed that an old bug from Facebook, causing problems with application CSS loading, is still alive, especially the last few days with the intermittent performance issues of the facebook API platform.
You might experience a broken layout, in the Feed Preview mode in particular - if you are using IE...
Problems with feeds from Yahoo! Pipes
The past few days our users that have Yahoo! Pipes feeds added to their Facebook Profiles and Fan Pages, started reporting that their Yahoo! Pipes feeds suddenly “stopped working”. Their feeds stopped posting for a few hours then some of them posted some entries and then paused again for a few hours and so on.
Looking into this, we discovered something we probably should have thought...

Sporadic Publishing Failures
The last few days we have been receiving reports from some users that some of the items in their feeds do not show up on their wall although they are reported as published from RSS Graffiti.

Fan Page authorization possible again: Facebook...
As of early today Facebook bug #7243 which was preventing some users from granting special permissions to enable publishing in their Fan Pages has been resolved so everything is back to normal now. This was the 2nd time we were affected from a Facebook bug in the special permissions dialog and hopefully it will be the last one too.
RSS Graffiti live again on the new servers!
Things are pretty much back to normal after a very long and difficult day of urgently migrating to a new hosting provider.
RSS Graffiti now runs on the cloud and although we did not iron out all the edges yet, we are pretty confident that the flexibility we now have in terms of infrastructure will allow us to maintain a good service for the coming months and accommodate for the increasing demand...
Moving to new servers
We are in the process of moving RSS Graffiti to new servers on the the cloud. The process has already taken several hours today and there is still lots of work to be done; but we are getting there.
Although we planed to make this transition later this week an ugly surprise from our current hosting provider forced us into the decision to move on with the planned migration right away.
The new...

Version 1.6.0 Beta up running
Early on Friday, Oct 16, we deployed version 1.6.0 Beta which seems to run quite well so far. There is a heavy load on our server lately but it has not caused any serious problems so far. All feeds are being updated every 5 to 9 minutes. We are already in the process of preparing the transition to a new hosting environment that will provide more capacity to RSS Graffiti for processing your feeds.

Up and running
RSS Graffiti version 1.3.1 Beta is currently running in production. Everything seems to be just fine for all users.
We are working to improve our monitoring tools to make sure no updates are ever missed for anyone. Some of these tools might be released for our users too so that they know first hand if any problems are encountered with any of their feeds.
Meanwhile RSS Graffiti continues to...
Back to normal
Updates have been enabled again after deploying a patch for the bug mentioned in the previous post. Version 1.2.0.200 Beta is now live in the production server.
Updates paused for a while
We have currently paused the updates to your walls until we deploy a fix to a bug that caused many feeds to repeatedly post some updates. The patch will be deployed later tonight after we have enough time to test it.
Up and running
The issues on our server have been resolved. The Facebook Application is up and running again.
